2022.01.25 08:05 opi_wan_ How to mix in Ableton?
So I'm coming from Fl Studio. I'm used to having Fruity Balance open on my second monitor at all times so that I can easily set and monitor levels. The plugin is also re sizable so I was able to drag a corner and make it significantly bigger and easy to see.
I love ableton. I'm currently in the process of transitioning, but currently have hit a hump. And that hump is setting levels.
It just seems a more tedious process in ableton as the meters are tiny and they aren't even labeled that much in detail. How do you guys go about setting levels easily and accurately in ableton?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

2022.01.25 08:05 softlyhaired Censored French in Winter Forecast episode?
I was watching SU on Hulu and noticed at the end of Winter Forecast there is a weird cut, and having watched this show so many times, I knew they cut Greg's line when he said, "A couch?! Ooh là là! *runs into the house* Château Maheswaran! "
Is that considered offensive, or something? Was there an update to the show that censored a bunch of stuff? Somewhere I can read about it?

2022.01.25 08:05 ronin_shogun I’m a straight male (17) and I think I’m overly emotional how do I stop this?
When I see anything to do with a positive father son relationship or puppies or themes about personal sacrifice I just tear up. It’s so weird because I while I do cry at some films I mostly used to just find stuff wholesome. It’s like some scenes are so wholesome I start crying. How do I stop getting emotional so quickly? Thank you.

2022.01.25 08:05 AdoWanabo How much does a comic’s persona affect your enjoyment of their act?
Obviously personal taste should always be accounted for in any discussion of enjoying a piece of creative work, but specifically in standup comedy —how much does a comic’s stage persona affect your perception of their material?
I think there are comics whose persona compliments their material very well —like Anthony Jesselnik, Hannibal Buress, or Mitch Hedberg.
But there are those comics whose acts and material I respect but I sometimes find hard to enjoy. Bill Burr for example, is someone I respect and is also respected by my favorites. But there are times that I just can’t listen to him because of his ‘whiny uncle’ persona. Even in Aziz Ansari’s new special, where I think he’s demonstrated a lot of growth and perspective (same with his previous one) his go-to technique of shouting the punchline just gets in the way sometimes (at least for me).
I think this is also why Kevin Hart is easily more mainstream than other acts. He’s relatively unoffending, he’s enthusiastic, and a fantastic storyteller even though he’s not the best joke writer by any means.
What about you guys? Do you usually separate your enjoyment of a comic’s persona with their material?

2022.01.25 08:05 TinyNuggins1 Cal was never the villain of the show
I've seen lots of comments that now after knowing Cal's backstory people feel weird because they kind of sympathise with his while he is the villain, but in my opinion he never was one (at least for now).
He's obviously a problematic person and the fact that he secretly tapes his sex is really messed up. He also cheats his wife and is a bad father, but outside of these three things he never did anything that bad or wrong. Rue portrays him as a huge villain who is intimidating, has connections all over the city and acts like a threat to everyone, but in fact he was never a threat to Jules.
He asked Jules in prior about her age and she lied that she was 22. He never groomed her, they met on an app and instantly had one night stand with consensual sex. Is it creepy to have sex with someone who is supposably 22 when your are in your 40's-50's? Yes. Is it illegal or that uncommon? No. In carnival when he realised that Jules is a high schooler and he messed up, he didn't pull any of "if you ruin my life, I'll ruin yours" shit (like his son later did), he just had an honest conversation with her telling Jules that she now had a control over his life and future and he could only beg her to keep it a secret and after that he never contacted her or Rue again.
Same with Fez (at least for now), as soon as he realised that Fez has nothing to do with tapes and had no idea about Cal and Rue, it seemed like he sincerely didn't want to have any further problems or interactions with Fez. I will even be pissed off if the writers decide to take a turn with Cal keeping fighting all the teenagers (except his own son, they are definitely going to have some problems), because for now it seems like he's done with them completely and it would feel out of character for me. When he went to see Fez for the first time it was him kind of protecting his son from the drug dealer that sent Nate to the hospital, after that when he thought that Fez had the tapes, he just straight up wanted to talk to him with no guns or anything, but now he has nothing to do with Fez and it seems like he knows it.
I feel like while he's messed up in lots of ways he actually understands consequences of his actions better than anyone in the show. After Nate choked Maddy in S1 he even said that he knows that Nate being fucked up is his fault and it seemed like he feels guilt for that because he knows that his secret life affects his family. He doesn't have anybody to talk to so he had this conversation with his one night stand and it's a great portrayal on how lonely and lost in his life Cal is. Now with his backstory we just have a proof that he had to live a life he never wanted.
He just seems more self conscious than lots of other characters in the show (which kind of makes sense, he is an adult and most of the characters are teenagers, but anyway). His son is manipulative and violent dick who messes up with others' lives for his own purposes, but Cal honestly seems more like someone who didn't hurt anyone on purpose and he still knows that his actions had some hard consequences. All his actions are motivated and he never crossed a line yet or went too far. I'm not saying he is a good person, he is definitely not, but everyone on the show is morally grey and I don't feel like Cal is really worse than any other character of the show. At least it's pretty obvious that he feels guilt for who he is as a person.
