Where to get a PCR test?

2021.12.05 21:01 lifeofdrew Where to get a PCR test?

Im flying to QLD on the 23rd for Christmas and I see you need a PCR test. Have called Laverty and they couldnt book me in and told me I had to call that week on Monday…
Where else does them as I’m struggling to find them? And how long do results take because I’ll obviously need them before my flight that afternoon.

2021.12.05 21:01 BluePotterExpress Deathless

taken from this post on Writingprompts
'Everyone dies eventually.'
That had been the saying, once. It was supposed to be a comfort of some kind, back then: a life was cut short? Well, that end comes to everyone in time. It may have seemed early for them, but we would all close our eyes and succumb to oblivion eventually.
But not anymore. Not now.
Wind tore through the shredded remains of what had once been my left arm as I struggled up the slick, rain-worn steps that lead to that small seaside citadel that stuck out above the black waves like a fist of stone raging against the stormy sky. I clenched my jaw to keep from allowing the pain of the exposed bone and tendon keep me from passing out and losing myself. When everything hurt, it almost started to feel as though nothing did. The cuts and splits in my feet paled in comparison to the fractured bones of my leg, which paled to the mess that had become of my innards. By all accounts, a human body shouldn't survive in this sorry state.
But then, no one could die anymore.
Many I'd called allies and friends had fallen, traversing this blasted landscape of long-ruined fortresses and overgrown cities. Their wounds had become too great for their minds. Even here, so close, I could see the gaunt frames of those who had tried before strewn out on the ground. Bodies so thin and frail that merely stubbing their toe or slipping and hitting their elbow against the rocks had been the final blow. As I passed, they looked like simple corpses. Yet, corpses did not have eyes that met my own when I looked at them. Eyes that were very much alive.
I shielded my remaining eye from the spray of the sea as I conquered another of the coastal hills that may as well have been mountains. Being close enough to feel the ocean against my skin brought the faintest of memories of beaches. I pushed them aside as swiftly as they came: recalling the past was the best way to lose oneself.
I couldn't say how many days, months, or years passed as I dragged myself across that trail of cleanly cut and weathered stones. I passed more fallen: some seemed near pristine, yet had fallen due to internal damages. Some were so desiccated and broken down that my heart ached to lay them to rest. I couldn't, though. Not yet.
The entrance of the citadel was hardly worth the title. It was a simple little stone arch that may have once sat in a mighty wall, but the fortress around it had long since crumbled into piles of moss-covered rubble. I walked through at near a crawl, not willing to move any faster than comfortable. I was so close: losing footing and succumbing to the pain my body so desperately wanted to end now would be a fate worse than anything.
The stairs, shockingly, were dry and rough beneath my broken feet as I began up them. The walls inside the citadel had held, for the most part: sea spray hadn't worn down these stones, and wind could not scour them smooth. The worn and fraying strips of flesh that could still be considered muscles in my legs didn't scream as I worked them to as furious a pace I dared as I climbed. It wasn't for lack of effort: there simply wasn't enough tension for them to. Every step up was another mountain to summit, going around and around. I eventually found a pattern: one step in the light, wait in the dark, then move upwards again once I could see.
By the time I was reaching the top of that lone spire, I had nearly forgotten myself. Forgotten my goal; forgotten the feeling of harsh wind against my dried skin, or the spray of salt and water that crackled and blistered it. I managed, eventually, to find myself in front of a door. A simple, wooden door. Tentatively, I reached for it.
Worries of locks, rust, or bars keeping me from entry now that I had finally summited the hundred or so impossible steps broke apart like dust as the door swung open on pristinely oiled hinges.
The room was circular, with wide, open windows that immediately reminded me what chilling wind and stinging ocean spray felt like. Moss and vines had reclaimed near every inch of the ground and pillars that had once held up a roof long since turned into the heaps of stone and broken tile that had been lost to the green. At the center of the room was a podium baring a crown.
Before it, a man was chained to the ground.
"What sorry hell have you become?" the man asked. I am ashamed to admit how shocking the sound of another's voice was. Most I knew had long since out strained their vocal chords, leaving a perpetual itch in their throats that would never leave. It was even more shocking how... whole the man was. The skin on his ankles and wrists—where the thick shackles bound him— had worn down to bone, but his face was... discernable. I couldn't say much more than that: it had been so long I couldn't remember what a proper human looked like.
I tried to say something in return, but my jaw had long since ground away to a useless joint. Instead, I grunted in enough emotion I could to say 'I have survived my hell to undo what was done.' I suspect that the man understood none of it, as his blood-shot eyes narrowed in confusion at me. I looked past the man to the crown.
"You came for it?" the man asked, despite him having to know I could give no response. "I assumed as much. In the early days, I'd hear unending screams and clashing swords as your kind fought to take it or preserve its emptiness. I understand there are countless thousands of you out in the ocean depths. Still living. Still screaming."
I ignored him, inching in as wide an arc around the chained man as I could to get to the crown. It was a rusted, sad looking thing after these countless years: I'd seen images of it in its prime. The Twenty-six peaks of golden-plated iron still stood, and still held the gemstones in them, though clouded and caked in salt and algae.
The chained man took notice as I moved and continued speaking: "you know, a few have made it here before you." The barest flinch in my eye made him grin. "That's right. You aren't special for getting here. They couldn't do it, you see. It was maybe... a year after they'd stripped it from me that the first came to fix what he'd done. He'd held it; he'd seen how many should already be consigned to death and had not yet gone. He couldn't do it. Couldn't end that many lives."
If my jaw could still clench, I'd have been doing it as I took as resolved of steps that I could.
"Next one was... fifteen years later?" the man continued. "She had wanted to control those who left and those who remained. Something about a... lover, I believe. Well, she saw she could not. I suppose she preferred unending life with one so wishful for death they could not speak or hear than a peaceful passing on."
I pushed onward, feeling each ground down joint in my body as I did. Each tendon that had snapped, never to heal again. Each cut to my skin, each bruise. This ground wouldn't be so horrible to lay upon for eternity, would it? And this chained lord, stripped of what had made him god was company.
"The third, well, he didn't realize he had to go as well." The man's face was obscured by his hair now, but I could tell he was smiling. "Imagine that? It was... what, five hundred years later? A broken, bleeding man who should have succumbed to his lost innards. And yet, he saw his own mortality in it, and couldn't bare to leave." The man's head turned toward me, his smile incongruous with his eyes. "I don't want to scare you off, I truly don't. I want my successor to know what they will become. You will not exist anymore; at least, not as you are. What you were; what you are now. Can you accept that?"
I reached out and took hold of the rusted thing.
Everything rushed into me. Attempting to name it was useless. I saw through more than eyes, my perception filling the room, the cliffs, the continent. I saw them: billions upon trillions of dots of light, all so faint and dim that they would have been impossible to pick out among the blackness, if it weren't for those lights to be the only thing that existed. I could see myself as I lifted that crown, my body seeming stronger. I saw the barely moving bodies of those I had known for millennia, yet could no longer remember the names of, laying in pits; in swamps or along roads. Bodies of the dead that could not die. The man was correct: no light would remain once they were able to be extinguished. I could see all, and knew that all would be reduced to black.
I watched as I lifted the crown over my head.
I watched as I set the crown upon my brow and—
Standing upon a floor of infinite onyx the new god spread their arm across everything and gathered the light. The light was so tired, had been for so long. The new god felt each one give up gratefully as their hand passed across the entirety of that onyx plane.
The others watched.
The new god startled at that. They were alone, yet found others pressing against the infinite they spread across. Twenty-five other infinities, seeing these trillions of lights be gathered and extinguished. The new god felt the infinite grow cold as light left, leaving a void within the black glass they stood upon. As quickly as it has begun, it was finished. The light had been removed. The void stretched across all, becoming an endless expanse of nothingness.
The other infinities pressed more strongly against the new god. Other wants, needs, desires; other existences.
And then, a pinpoint of light. The new god felt another infinity touch the plane of onyx and press light into it. Another pinpoint. More and more, points of existence began to shine through the void, spreading further and further and growing brighter and brighter until the onyx shone so brightly that it appeared as though the infinite plane of onyx were pure white.
The god saw one light had grown faint. That wouldn't do.
They moved their hand and pulled that light in. Another infinity would find good use for it.

2021.12.05 21:01 mikkison Terra Overtakes Dogecoin's Market Cap And Becomes A Top 10 Crypto After Hitting All-Time High

Terra (CRYPTO: LUNA) — a blockchain with smart contract support and its own decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem — overtook Dogecoin's (CRYPTO: DOGE) market cap and became the tenth-largest cryptocurrency project.
What Happened: Terra's current market cap is about $26.8 billion while Dogecoin's is $24.7 billion, according to CoinMarketCap data. This means that Terra pushed Dogecoin off of the cryptocurrency Olympus and became the tenth-largest cryptocurrency in the world.
Terra is a Cosmos (CRYPTO: ATOM)-based blockchain taking on Ethereum(CRYPTO: ETH). It hit an all-time high of over $70 on Friday but was at $68.71 Friday afternoon at publication, up 7.30% in the past 24 hours.
The network is primarily used to create algorithmic stablecoins pegged to various fiat currencies and its native LUNA coin is used to mint those tokens as well as to pay for transaction fees and participate in the network's governance.
Terra is currently the fifth-largest smart contract-enabled blockchain with Ethereum leading the way, followed by Solana (CRYPTO: SOL), Cardano (CRYPTO: ADA) and Polkadot (CRYPTO: DOT).
Terra's price started rising after the protocol’s Columbus-5 upgrade on Nov. 30, which activated a burn mechanism that removes LUNA from circulation.
The pool of coins used to mint the protocol's UST stablecoin was burned and all the LUNA spent for minting more of it will be burned in the future. This resulted in a new deflationary pressure on the coin that spurred significant investor interest, not unlike the effect that EIP-1559 had on Ethereum investors.

2021.12.05 21:01 Aung_0w0 How should I (23m) ask her (21f) to be my gf

There's a girl I've recently been talking to, and things are going great. I think the feelings are mutual, and I'm pretty sure neither of us is seeing or talking to other people.
So how should I go about making things "official"?
Should I just be blunt and say, "Hey, do you wanna be my girlfriend?" Or "do you wanna move to the next step and be exclusive?" Or say nothing at all and just keep seeing each other until we just start calling each other bf and gf?
Any other options would be great 👍

2021.12.05 21:01 AutoModerator Weekly Copyright Reminder

This is a weekly reminder post of this sub's stance on potential copyright infringement. This is a serious issue that needs to be kept in mind when creating and listing NFTs.
Original post by u/HurleyBird1
Quick disclaimer: I AM NOT A LAWYER. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE - THIS IS SIMPLY INFORMATION WITH WHICH TO EDUCATE YOURSELVES AND PREPARE YOURSELF FOR LEGAL ADVICE FROM A LICENSED SOURCE.
Now that that's out of the way. My credentials are: MBA, with a bit of business law classes under my belt.
I want to give a quick explanation of how copyright works - and I'll do so through quick blurbs n some myth/reality bullets.
Source: copyright.gov (US)

  1. Subject matter of copyright: In general28(a) Copyright protection subsists, in accordance with this title, in original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. Works of authorship include the following categories:(1) literary works;(2) musical works, including any accompanying words;(3) dramatic works, including any accompanying music;(4) pantomimes and choreographic works;(5) pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works;(6) motion pictures and other audiovisual works;(7) sound recordings; and(8) architectural works.(b) In no case does copyright protection for an original work of authorship extend to any idea, procedure, process, system, method of operation, concept, principle, or discovery, regardless of the form in which it is described, explained, illustrated, or embodied in such work.
- Myth: I can use any image/song/video/writing I want.
- Reality: No. Not true at all.
- Myth: Well they never said it's copyrighted.
- Reality: Upon publication (and even while a work in progress) a work is automatically protected via copyright under US Law.
- Myth: Well they never sold it.
- Reality: It doesn't have to be commercialized to be protected.
- Myth: Well it was a long time ago
- Reality: Possibly true...as long as the creator is deceased (or if multiple creators, the last living one is deceased) and the required time has passed...although this gets tricky with "estates."
(d) Duration of Rights.—(1) With respect to works of visual art created on or after the effective date set forth in section 610(a) of the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990, the rights conferred by subsection (a) shall endure for a term consisting of the life of the author.
So what's this thing I hear called "Fair Use?"
Straight from the source:
  1. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use41Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
Uhh...help me translate that please... (here's a decent official translation: https://www.copyright.gov/fair-use/more-info.html)
  1. above...if it's non-profit educational use, you're usually good to go...if it's for money or trade (commercial nature) then you're usually NOT...unless YOUR piece is "transformative"
Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.
- Myth: Well this is paid for in Algos, not USD so it's not "commercial"
- Reality: IT IS commercial. You could even barter for bacon and it'd be commercial. It's an exchange of one good/service for another good/service.
- Myth: My piece with Batman inside a card is "transformative"
- Reality: No, unfortunately, more-than-likely the courts would say it's not. A good litmus test is..."If Warner Bros Entertainment (owner of Batman) wanted to make an NFT/ASA "Batman card" would yours compete with it or be possibly mistaken (by a reasonable person - so in America think 8th grade education) for real merchandise? Probably...thus it's not transformative enough.
"nature" gets a little tougher. This looks at protecting the "creative process." Thus, using other works of art is less-likely to be protected than using factual sources - like historical photographs since it's easier to "create art" and thus "transform" factual pieces than other art pieces. This is also talking to things like "parody." Satire is NOT protected. "Parody" is. What's the difference? LegalZoomputs it well: While a parody targets and mimics the original work to make a point, a satire uses the original work to criticize something else entirely. Another way to look at it is that satire uses another work as a way to comment on something happening in the world that has nothing to do with the original work.
- Myth: I added a different border, extra planets, and some blur effect to MTZ's World of Light - it's a new piece of art.
- Reality: Not likely the courts will see it that way.
- Myth: This guy added a filter, some burn effects, and collaged a bunch of newspaper headlines together - isn't that a violation!
- Reality: Probably not...the courts would probably see this as a creation of art out of factual sources.
amount/substantiality in relation to the whole...this is where using clips of songs that are only like 5 seconds long works! But using more than that...runs into problems. This is tough to decipher too...as some songs are EASILY identifiable from just 5 seconds (Ice, ice, baby) - and thus NOT fair use. But some aren't. Usually you're safe using a very small clip of a song or video - especially if you're adding more to it. But this is a dangerous game to play - and there's places to get free audio (some sources below)
effect of the use - this is probably the biggest one. Courts will look at simply...does YOUR work affect the sales or potential for sales of the copyright owner. Of note...this is looked at at the time of the issue being brought to the court, not at the time of sale. For example, let's say my batman card sells for 10 Algos today, but Algorand BLOWS UP and soon every NFT is on Algorand. And now my OG Batman NFT is seen as one of the first Batman ones and official. Warner Bros gonna sue the shit outta whoever owns it at the time they sue to get the rights to all sales of that NFT. So that person is left holding an empty bag when Warner Bros wins in court.
- Myth: Well they're not commercializing it NOW so I'm safe.
- Reality: Technically, yea Warner Bros probably won't spend the money to go after the OG artist and the hands the asset passed through...HOWEVER, they may. That's their right. Who knows - the Napster days showed us the lengths companies will go to. EVEN BIGGER HOWEVER, the last person holding it when Warner Bros DOES decide to go after that Batman NFT...uh oh for them - they just lost their asset.
- Myth: Well it's been like a year, and no one has brought up copyright. So I'm good.
- Reality: If this was in a normal market...maybe this argument would work. If McDonald's let you sell a Ronald McDonald poster for like a year on Amazon with no issues, some court may say "bro, you took too long to bring this to us." HOWEVER, with cryptocurrency being so new (and Algorand being so little known/discussed), most courts would see it as "reasonable" that a copyright owner failed to exercise their rights within a year - possibly even a decade. (Updated because I realized last example dealt with trademark not copyright :o)
So what am I safe to use?
US Government works (mostly)...any deemed free to use by creator...and any a copyright lawyer says they have your backs on (cuz now they're liable).
Here's some great sources for free use items (please add to this list below if you know of some!!!):
Pictures: https://buffer.com/library/free-images/ (Unsplash is one of my faves)
Music: https://www.wix.com/blog/photography/2019/11/27/free-music-for-videos/
Video: https://blog.hootsuite.com/free-stock-videos-sites/
You'll notice there's a lot of "shoulds" "coulds" "probably" etc. This is because copyright cases are all unique and go to the courts. The best bet is to go with stuff you KNOW is free and fair-use. If not, I'd look up copyright law, consult supreme court cases concerning copyright, and ultimately, talk to a lawyer.
AGAIN: I AM NOT A LAWYER. I AM NOT PROVIDING LEGAL ADVICE. I AM SIMPLY PROVIDING INFORMATION. THERE MAY BE ERRORS ABOVE THAT COULD CAUSE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES - CONSULT A COPYRIGHT ATTORNEY IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE LEGAL ADVICE.
